Sheffield clubs compete for Lita
Riath Al-Samarrai reports on two local rivals going head-to-head:
Decent Yorkshire tussle developing for Swansea's Leroy Lita.
I'm told by sources at Swansea that Sheffield United have joined Sheffield Wednesday in the race for the striker, though the player is apparently reluctant to leave unless it is a loan deal.
Lita is one of only two players who Swansea are actively trying to offload. The other, Curtis Obeng, is not thought to have attracted any interest.

Odemwingie has medical at Cardiff
Charles Sale with another update on the Odemwingie situation:
Sadly no more unofficial deadline day car journeys for Peter Odemwingie. All terms agreed with Cardiff subject to medical taking place now.
13:23
This story from Joe Bernstein:
Everton have agreed a £15million deal for Porto midfielder Fernando – thus paving the way for Marouane Fellaini's departure to Manchester United.
Anxious United fans were wondering why there had been little news about Fellaini on Monday morning but the reason was Everton boss Roberto Martinez was waiting to complete a deal to bring Fernando to Goodison Park.
Brazilian Fernando – nicknamed Polvo (The Octopus) because of his leggy style - had a year left on his contract in Portugal and it is believed for that reason Everton have been able to sign him for under the player's 30million Euro buy-out clause.
Fernando is 6ft tall and a holding midfield player regarded as one of the best imports into the Portuguese league over the last few years.
Full details to follow...

Hunt in discussions with Blackpool
Another line here from Colin Young:

Former Wolves winger Stephen Hunt is in talks with Blackpool.

But a deal for the Ireland international may not go through today as the 32-year-old is a free transfer and can be signed after the window closes.

Reading could also make a late move for their former player who has been out of contract since Wolves were relegated last season.

Bruce considers move for Doyle
And here's more activity from Humberside from Colin Young:

As he looks far and wide to strengthen his strikeforce, Hull boss Steve Bruce is pondering a move for Wolves’ Kevin Doyle.

Kenny Jacket, the Wolves boss, is reluctant to sell the Republic of Ireland striker, who has been left out of Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad for the last six months as he struggles for form.

Doyle, 30, is on £40,000-a-week and has made a positive start to the new campaign for Wolves.

If he misses out on Hugo Rodallega and Nicklas Bendtner, Bruce is ready to turn to Doyle as his next alternative.

Demichelis speaks after City move
Sportsmail's Chris Wheeler has sent in this update:

Martin Demichelis has spoken for the first time since completing his £4million move from Atletico Madrid to Manchester City.

The Argentina defender’s arrival takes City’s summer spending beyond the £90m mark, and Demichelis admits the opportunity to work with Manuel Pellegrini for the third time in his career was too good to turn down. The 32-year-old has previously played for Pellegrini at Malaga and River Plate.

‘Needless to say there is a mutual respect and trust between us, we have known each other for many years,’ said Demichelis.

‘We worked together at River Plate, we became champions. We worked together at Malaga for two successful years and now life gives us a third chance.

‘Manuel was an important part in this. He trusts me after two years in Malaga. I want to repay the confidence shown by the club and coaching staff on the pitch.’

Madrid fans revolt against Ozil transfer
It seems as though the decision to sell Mesut Ozil to Arsenal hasn't gone down too well in Madrid.

Supporters gathered at the Bernabeu have been singing 'Don't sell Ozil' as the German star undergoes a medical in Munich ahead of a spectacular move to the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale, the latest Galactico, is completing a lap of honour in his new home, kicking footballs into the jubilant crowd.
12:51
Kaka returns to Milan
Kaka has this morning signed a two year contract to re-join AC Milan from Real Madrid. The Brazilian star got reacquainted with the Italian club's famous red and black colours. He moved to Madrid for around £56million back in 2009.
Back in town: Kaka holds up the Milan shirt after returning to the Italian side
12:42
Confusion over Given move
Neil Moxley with an update on the situation at Villa Park:
Puzzled faces at Villa Park at the speculation surrounding Shay Given. As of this morning, no communication received from Liverpool. Seems a bit pointless, Given going to be No. 2 to Simon Mignolet.
Sixty grand a week to warm the bench is the same at Villa Park as it is at Anfield. Surely Brendan Rodgers can find cheaper cover than that?
12:40
Arsenal are on the verge of a spectacular £40million transfer breakthrough after it emerged Mesut Ozil is having a medical in Munich, ahead of completing a move to The Emirates.
Sportsmail understands the Real Madrid midfielder is undergoing a medical at the hands of Bayern Munich and Germany team doctor Hans Muller-Wolfhart after accepting he is no longer wanted at the Bernabeu and would be better off making a fresh start at The Emirates.
12:37
From Sportsmail's John Edwards:
West Brom and West Ham will have to get a move on if they want to land Fabio Quagliarella after Sportsmail learned that Lazio have lodged a £5.5million bid for the Juventus striker.
Both Barclays Premier League clubs have had loan requests for the frontrunner rebuffed by Juve, who want to sell him after launching the campaign with a new-look strike force of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente.
Roma and Lazio are their main rivals for his signature, with the latter now in pole position after placing cash on the table.
West Brom were ready to spend on a striker and may be encouraged to hear Juve are now prepared to accept as little as £5.5million after originally asking for around £7million.
12:26
BREAKING: Decision time for Ozil
Real will announce after Bale press conference they have accepted bids from Arsenal and PSG for Ozil and it is up to the player to decide.
12:19
Arsenal ask Chelsea about Ba
Sami Mokbel on Arsenal's next target on Deadline Day:
As Sportsmail revealed this morning, Demba Ba is a deadline day target for Arsenal. The North London club have made an enquiry to Chelsea.
But it is understood Jose Mourinho is reluctant to let the striker leave for one of their top-four rivals.
12:17
Saints have transfer business done and dusted
Sportsmail's Sam Cunningham checks in with Southampton:
I've been told that Southampton are expecting a quiet deadline day by sources at the club. The club did their spending early, splashing £36million on Dejan Lovren (£8.5m), Victor Wanyama (£12.5m) and Dani Osvaldo (£15m).

The latter was Mauricio Pochettino's final key transfer target as the club look to improve on last season's 14th-place finish.

There could be a few players not involved with the first team squad going out the door. It is likely Billy Sharp and Jonathan Forte will go.

Jack Cork, a regular last season but struggling to get in the first team following the arrival of Wanyama, has been linked with Fulham, but Pochettino has said he is not for sale.
12:11
BREAKING: PSG match Arsenal's bid for Ozil
Paris Saint-Germain have matched Arsenal's offer of £40million for Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil. It looks like we're in for a dramatic few hours.
12:08
Fulham still in the market for a right-back
The transfer window business might not be quite over at Fulham, reports Colin Young:
Martin Jol wants to sign a right-back today.
The Fulham boss said: 'We have a problem with Riether and Briggs. I think it is pretty obvious where we are looking to do business.'
Jol has been linked with Parma defender Yohan Benalouane and former Chelsea and Wolves centre-half Michael Mancienne.
12:04
11 HOURS TO GO UNTIL THE WINDOW SHUTS
You can watch a video feed of Gareth Bale's unveiling at the Bernabeu by clicking the title above.
The £86m world record signing passed a medical in Madrid this morning and now he will be introduced to thousands of spectators.
11:59
Hull may join race for Bendtner
Neil Ashton on a possible late bidder for Bendtner:
It's a long shot, but Hull are still interested in signing Nicklas Bendtner - they are competition for Crystal Palace.
Bendtner played for Hull chief Steve Bruce when he was manager of Birmingham City when they won promotion from the Championship in 2007.
11:58
No more spending for City
Adam Crafton with news from the Etihad:
All quiet on the Manchester City front. A City source says it is 'extremely unlikely' that any players will be signed today.
Interesting, though, they are a little rueful that the Gareth Bale to Real Madrid deal took so long.

City have had their eye on Madrid defender Pepe all summer long and believe Real may have been tempted to sell after splashing the Bale cash.
As it was - with the Bale deal so prolonged - City weren't prepared to take the risk of waiting and possibly missing out altogether on a much-needed centre-half.
Instead, they wrapped up the signing of Martin Demichelis. That, **should** be that for City's spending.

City are happy for Gareth Barry to join Everton but there is a bit of wrangling between the two sides over whether it should be a loan deal or a permanent move.
Barry will have to take a sizeable cut on his £125,000-a-week wages if he is to join permanently while City would have to continue paying a considerable portion of the players' salary should he head to Goodison Park on loan.
Understandably, City would prefer the first option. This one may go down to the wire and is another deal implicated in the Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United snowball effect.
11:56
Boro chase Fryatt to boost attacking options
Colin Young reports as Middlesbrough chase more firepower:
After missing out on Ross McCormack and Luciano Becchio, Middlesbrough are turning late attention to Hull City striker Matty Fryatt.
Tony Mowbray faces competition from Championship rivals Leicester City and Nottingham Forest for Fryatt who has been told he can leave the KC Stadium.
Boro went to £2million for Leeds striker McCormack but he has now signed an improved deal at Elland Road.
Becchio meanwhile, joined Norwich from Leeds last season, and he wants to fight for his place at Carrow Road after Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel joined this summer.
11:54
Neil Ashton has been looking into one of Liverpool's new signings:
The FA are to ask for talks with Liverpool's new defender Tiago Ilori after it emerged he is eligible for the England national team.
Ilori was born in England but has represented the Portuguese national team at junior level throughout his career in the country with Sporting.
England chief Roy Hodgson and Under-21 coach Gareth Southgate fear there is a lack of talent making the breakthrough in the Barclays Premier League.
It is a subject that will be addressed when new FA chairman Greg Dyke makes a strong speech on the issue on Wednesday.
England were alerted to the possibility that Ilori could be persuaded to switch nationality after his move to Anfield.
Ilori, 20, was also wanted by Tottenham, but the move was blocked and he decided to move to Liverpool instead.
11:50
Mancienne move back to Premier League could be on
Update from Sportsmail's Laura Williamson on a player possibly coming back to the Premier League:
Fulham are distancing themselves from rumours linking them to former Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne, but Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer has confirmed Crystal Palace have made an offer for the 25-year-old and a move back to the Premier League 'could happen'.
11:48
From Colin Young:
Fabio Borini is having a medical at Sunderland. The Liverpool striker has been persuaded to accept a season’s loan at the Stadium of Light.
He was reluctant to move away from Anfield, and Brendan Rodgers would not sanction a permanent deal.

11:47
Cesar not keen on move away
There have been a number of inquiries for QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar, but Sportsmail understands the Brazilian isn't keen on moving out of London.
11:45
Ince training with Blackpool
The latest on Tom Ince from Sportsmail's Jack Gaughan:
Tom Ince is training with Blackpool today. There's been plenty of talk about the young winger moving, with Newcastle making an enquiry yesterday. The Magpies, however, aren't expected to go back in for the England Under 21 international.

The Seasiders are pressing ahead in getting a number of incoming deals done. They have been heavily linked with ex-Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt.
11:42
Crystal Palace have confirmed on their official website that Huddersfield Town defender Jack Hunt has signed a four-year deal.
The right-back arrives at Selhurst Park for an undisclosed fee.
11:41
West Brom enquire about Rondon
More potential business at the Hawthorns. Neil Moxley reports:
West Bromwich Albion have spoken with Portuguese side CD Nacional about Venezuela striker Mario Rondon, 27.
Albion have been rebuffed in various enquiries as they search for forwards intensifies and also failed in a bid to lure Colombian Adrian Ramos from Hertha Berlin as the German side demanded £8million.
11:39
Campbell joins St Mirren on loan
Colin Young reports on a young Newcastle player on the move:
Newcastle United striker Adam Campbell is set to join St Mirren on loan.
The 18-year-old’s loan contract with Carlisle United was cancelled after just two games but Alan Pardew is keen to see him out on loan and playing games.
Paul Dummett, who has been promoted to the Newcastle bench, spent last season on loan at the SPL club.
11:38
Arsenal believe they are close to £40m Ozil signing
Sami Mokbel with the latest on Ozil - which is the most exciting story of the day:
Arsenal have made good progress with their attempts to sign Mesut Ozil this morning.
They are confident a deal, worth £40milllion, will be confirmed before the close of play.
Worryingly, though, PSG are looming and could yet outbid them.
11:32
Crystal Palace have asked Chelsea about taking Nathaniel Chalobah on loan.
The 18-year-old signed a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge last week and may be loaned out to gain more experience.
Out on loan? Crystal Palace would like to take Chelsea's Nathaniel Chalobah for the season
11:27
BREAKING: PSG outbid Arsenal for Ozil
There are suggestions that Paris Saint-Germain have outbid Arsenal for Mesut Ozil. We'll have more on that when we have it.
The well-connected ex-pro Jan Aage Fjortoft has also just tweeted an interesting development in the saga that plays against Arsenal: 'Ozil meeting up with the National Team in Munich today. Must arrive in the next hour or so. If the deal go through: Medical in Germany.'
11:24
Joe Bernstein reports:
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay will allow £1.5million summer signing John Brayford to return to Derby County after failing to use him so far this season.
Could it mean a late bid for Burnley's ex-Manchester City right-back Kieran Trippier, who was named in the Championship team of the season in May. Mackay has gone to watch £5million-rated Trippier twice this season.
11:22
Neil Moxley with a twist in the pursuit of Anichebe:
West Brom's competition for Everton forward Victor Anichebe's signature appears to be from Stoke City who are also interested in beefing up their attacking options ahead of the window closing.
If they succeed in landing the striker, it is likely to allow Wigan Athletic to pursue Cameron Jerome who also interests Reading.
11:13
Surprise signing at West Ham?
Tweet from Jack Sullivan, the son of West Ham supremo David: 'my dad is still trying to pull off a big surprise signing. Only a 30% chance. If it happens I'll let you know 1st.'
And we'll let you know shortly afterwards...
11:06
Kamara has medical at Middlesbrough
As we reported earlier, Kei Kamara is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough.
The 29-year-old Sierra Leone striker, who was on loan at Norwich last season, is set to complete his move from Kansas City.
Boro switched their sights to Kamara after missing out on Leeds United’s Ross McCormack and Norwich striker Luciano Becchio.
11:05
West Brom seek reinforcements up front
Neil Moxley updates us on a busy morning at West Brom:
West Brom have been firing off bids in all directions this morning. Their chase for Sunderland's Stephane Sessegnon seems to rest on whether they can afford his wages - he was awarded a whopping new contract by Martin O'Neill last season.

And there appears to be a situation with respect to offers for Everton's Victor Anichebe and Juventus forward Fabio Quagiarella. They are interested in both but are unlikely to do deals for the two strikers. It's likely to be one or the other.
11:04
Adam Crafton on a late transfer bid for De Rossi:

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi was the subject of a £12million bid from Manchester United on Friday but he will not be heading to Old Trafford, according to the Italian club.

Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni said: 'The club doesn't intend to accept offers for Daniele and he has no intention of leaving us. Daniele is an integral part of Roma's history.'

It always seemed an ambitious bid - and smacked of a little bit of panic from United.
11:02
Liverpool have confirmed their third signing of the morning as Chelsea forward Victor Moses joins on a one-year loan deal.

Real Madrid confirm via Twitter that Gareth Bale has passed his medical.
Well, that's a relief...

El Shaarawy not set for Man City move
Sportsmail's Nik Simon with an update:
Stephan El Shaarawy's representative has moved quickly to dismiss reports in Italy linking the striker with a £25million move to Manchester City.
The AC Milan player's agent, Roberto La Florio, told Sportsmail: 'Not true. He is in Milan. He stays in Milan.'
10:55
Former Fulham defender Chris Baird will wait until after the transfer window has shut to decide whether to join QPR.

Baird is a free agent after leaving Craven Cottage at the end of last season and he has attracted interest from Championship sides Bolton and Blackpool.

He has been training with Harry Redknapp's side in recent weeks but is yet to confirm where his future lies, despite being offered a contract by QPR.
10:54
Alex Kay again:
Reports from Spain saying that Gareth Bale has passed his medical and is now on his way to the Bernabeu to be screamed at by lots of happy Real Madrid fans.
He might want to give Harry Styles a call to find out how to handle the hysteria. Big queues already outside the ground.
He is due to be unveiled at midday UK time and we'll have full live coverage.
10:53
West Ham only interested in Quagliarella loan
Joe Bernstein has firmed up the earlier reports on Quagliarella:
Interesting stand-off at West Ham regarding their interest in Italian striker Fabio Quagliarella.
Juventus are keen on selling Quagliarella who has been sidelined in Turin by Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente but West Ham insist they aren't in a position to pay a transfer fee and are only interested in a loan.
Quagliarella, 30, is valued at £7million by Juve who want to explore the option of selling first.
10:50
Atsu sent straight out on loan
From Alex Kay:
A forward has left Stamford Bridge…. But it’s not Fernando Torres or Demba Ba. Christian Atsu, signed last week from Porto, has tied up his loan move to Vitesse Arnhem in Holland. The 21-year-old Ghanaian will surely not be the only departure today…
10:45
John Edwards on the raft of clubs in for Vaz Te:
Ricardo Vaz Te is another player in demand, after a widespread response to news he is ready to quit Upton Park.
Swansea and Crystal Palace have already been mentioned as admirers of the West Ham forward, and it is understood he is also on Nottingham Forest’s radar.
Forest are keen on Wolves’ £3million-rated winger Bakary Sako but are also considering Vaz Te, in their search for more width.
10:43
Sam Cunningham with the latest on Peter Odemwingie:
His agent Rob Segal has arrived at Cardiff after West Brom gave the club permission to discuss terms with the striker.
Given Odemwingie's actions in the last transfer window, not sure that suggests it's a done deal by any means at the moment.
In demand: Cardiff are favourites to sign Peter Odemwingie
10:42
Gedo tweets desire to re-join Hull
Colin Young with news of a player returning to Hull City:
Expect to see Gedo back at Hull City.
The Egypt striker, who scored five goals in a three month loan last season, has tweeted: 'I received a loan offer from Hull City. I am awaiting the response of Ahly’s football committee and technical staff. I hope they will accept the offer.’
Steve Bruce is ready to accept defeat in his bid to sign Nicklas Bendtner but still remains interested in Hugo Rodallega from Fulham
10:37
Baggies keen on Anichebe
West Bromwich are interested in signing Victor Anichebe from Everton. However, they may face competition from other clubs.
More on that when we have it.
10:33
Huge story for Chelsea fans... from Sportsmail's John Edwards:
Interesting rumour doing the rounds in Madrid. While all eyes are on Arsenal’s £40million pursuit of unsettled playmaker Mesut Ozil, it seems he may not be the only Germany midfielder heading out of the Bernabeu.
There are suggestions that Sami Khedira could also be on his way out and that Stamford Bridge may be his destination.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho signed former Stuttgart midfielder Khedira for Real Madrid and is thought to be interested in sealing a reunion with him before tonight’s deadline.
London calling? Rumours in Spain suggest Sami Khedira could be on his way to Chelsea (Picture: WENN.com)
10:26
Forest need to increase bid for Sako
Neil Moxley has details of the morning's transfer business at Wolves:
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has been down to Compton today to speak to head coach Kenny Jackett. As yet there has been no further communication from Nottingham Forest over and above the £2.5m offer for Bakary Sako.
Wolves aren't that keen to loan the player out, either. It looks like being a sale - or not - but at present Forest will need to up their bid.
10:25
Arsenal agree £3m pay-off to get rid of Bendtner
Neil Ashton on developments in the Bendtner transfer:
Arsenal have agreed to a stunning £3m pay-off to get Nicklas Bendtner out. Bendtner earns £55,000 a week at Arsenal and will not leave without the agreement in place.
He has held talks with Palace, who will pay him £25,000 a week if he signs for them.
10:22
Cherries granted work permit for Rantie
Bournemouth have been granted a work permit for £2.5million South African international striker Tokelo Rantie from Malmo but Fulham have had their application rejected for Colombian under-20s forward Jhon Cordoba who plays for Mexican club Chiapas.
There will be more work permit business conducted this morning. Everton and Brentford made applications last week.
10:20
Villa working towards Kozak signing
Neil Moxley reports on transfer dealing at Aston Villa:
Aston Villa are working on the deal to sign Libor Kozak from Lazio as we speak.
However, contrary to rumour it is NOT going to be a loan deal. There is a reason for this. Villa owner Randy Lerner is not a big fan of moves into the club on a temporary basis, he would rather his players be contracted to Villa permanently.
10:19
McCarthy stays in England
Colin Young reports that Everton target James McCarthy has not boarded the plane to Dublin to join up with the rest of the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of the weekend's international fixtures.
It suggests that he is required somewhere for transfer negotiations. The FAI have granted permission for him to fly tomorrow.
10:15
United not in talks with United
There have been some rumours elsewhere this morning that Man United are also in talks to sign Mesut Ozil from under the noses of Arsenal.
However, the Press Association are reporting that United ARE NOT in negotiations with the Real Madrid man.
10:14
Cardiff leading chase for Odemwingie
Lots of updates on Peter Odemwingie this morning so time for a recap - although Swansea and Stoke are also interested, Cardiff City are, at the moment, in pole position to sign the West Brom striker.
10:12
Benalouane is Fulham's only Deadline Day target
This just in from Sportsmail's Laura Williamson:
Fulham are expecting a 'very quiet' day in the transfer market. There's still potential for a deal with Parma for defender Yohan Benalouane, but the chances of that happening are looking increasingly slim.

The 26-year-old has also attracted interest from Swansea and Stoke, but the fact Parma and AC Cesena share his ownership (with a 50 per cent stake each) makes any transfer that little bit more difficult.
10:09
Joe Bernstein with the latest on an ever-changing situation at West Brom:
An interesting conundrum for West Brom boss Steve Clarke – he has to decide whether to use a wild-card loan spot for a striker to replace likely departure Peter Odemwingie, or a goalkeeper to cover for injured Ben Foster.

Albion already have four loan players - Goran Popov, Scott Sinclair, Matej Vydra and Morgan Amalfitano – the maximum you are allowed to field in the same team - and Clarke currently feels he needs another forward after yesterday's home defeat against Swansea.

That could mean bad news for Stoke's Jack Butland or Shay Given who would both count as loans, and good news for ex-Nottingham Forest No1 Lee Camp who is out of contract and therefore wouldn't count as a loan space. Foster is out for three months with a foot injury.

Odemwingie is being linked today with south Wales clubs Cardiff City and Swansea City.
10:07
John Edwards with the latest on the Mesut Ozil situation, which is developing apace:
Arsenal have not given up on Mesut Ozil, despite influential Spanish paper Marca’s claim that the Real Madrid playmaker had turned them down and was staying at the Bernabeu.
Arsene Wenger clearly still faces an anxious wait but will be heartened by news that Ozil is mindful of being surplus to requirements under Carlo Ancelotti and may yet agree to become the major signing the Arsenal manager desperately needs.
Sportsmail understands the question of Ozil’s future came to a head after Ancelotti was told to make a choice between him and winger Angel Di Maria.
After paying a world record fee for Gareth Bale, Real president Florentino Perez made it clear some funds had to be recouped and that either Ozil or Di Maria should go.
The former Chelsea boss indicated he would rather keep Di Maria, leaving Ozil to ponder whether he might be better off, after all, at The Emirates.
Evidently, he has yet to make his mind up, but he may just be leaning towards a fresh start in the Barclays Premier League.
Should a deal be struck, the figures being mentioned in Madrid are 47million euros for the fee and personal terms of 7million euros a year net over five years.
Will he or won't he: Arsenal are favourites to sign Mesut Ozil
10:02
Baird will bide his time over QPR move
From Laurie Whitwell:
Harry Redknapp said at the weekend he wants Chris Baird to make up is mind on an offer from QPR but the versatile defender-come-midfielder is another one who will bide his time until after the window closes.
Baird, a 31-year-old free agent, has been training with Rangers but is also the subject of interest from Bolton.
10:01
13 HOURS TO GO
John Edwards with the latest on dealings at White Hart Lane:
Tottenham’s hopes of offloading Emmanuel Adebayor have scarcely been helped by a plea of poverty from Schalke.
The Bundesliga side are expected to sell Switzerland winger Tranquillo Barnetta to Eintracht Frankfurt, ahead of Germany’s midday deadline, but are still unable to afford any fee for Adebayor, despite earmarking him as a prime candidate to solve their lack of firepower.
They would like to take him on a season-long loan, but Tottenham are unlikely to be impressed by a request that they pay half his wages.
09:57
Twitter abuzz with Ozil rumours
Tweet from Gary Lineker adds to the intrigue over Mesut Ozil: 'Hear Arsenal are close to signing Ozil, but will need to smash their wage structure to do so. Watershed moment. #decisiontime'
09:55
Adam Crafton with an update on Shinji Kagawa, who has been the subject of a bizarre 'Free Shinji' Twitter campaign:
Manchester United's brief last week was that no senior players would be allowed to leave the club in this window. Certainly, United are not actively looking to sell, nor is David Moyes under any pressure to move players on.

However, certain players may become available should David Moyes strengthen considerably in the coming hours.

Kagawa was not fully match fit for yesterday's 1-0 defeat at Liverpool but it was still a surprise that he didn't make United's matchday squad. He is believed to be happy to remain at club.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are considering loan bids for Kagawa, who is understood to already be on his way to Osaka for Japan's upcoming international games.

There are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes...if something does happen with Kagawa, it would be in the final hours of the window - and only if United have added at least two midfielders. I'd still be very surprised - United do rate him highly.
Stay or go? Shinji Kagawa could be allowed to leave Old Trafford today
09:52
Becchio to stay and fight for his place at Norwich
Update on Becchio from Sportsmail's Nik Simon:
Norwich striker Luciano Becchio has been heavily linked with a move to Middlesbrough following the arrival of Johan Elmander at Carrow Road.

I’ve just had a text from the player’s agent, Horacio Rossi, saying the former Leeds man is expecting to stay in Norfolk.

He said: ‘So far, Becchio is going to stay in Norwich to fight for a place. If there is any change I will let you know.’

Watch this space.

09:50
Fellaini camp ready to thrash out United deal
John Edwards with the very latest on Fellaini:
The Fellaini camp are in position, waiting for word that they can speak to Manchester United manager David Moyes about a move to Old Trafford.
At Marouane Fellaini’s request, the Everton midfielder’s Belgian representative, a long-time family confidant, flew over on Friday to join him and his father Abdellatif at his home in the north-west.
They will be joined by his English FIFA-registered agent, should United come up with a bid that is deemed acceptable by Everton.
'In position': Fellaini's team are ready to negotiate a move to Old Trafford
09:46
QPR, Palace, Watford and Ajax queue for Carroll
Joe Bernstein has an update on Tom Carroll - a man in demand:
Tottenham and England under-21 midfielder Tom Carroll is a man in demand today.
Besides QPR, the highly-rated youngster has also been given the opportunity to join Crystal Palace and Watford on loan.
And from left-field Dutch club Ajax has also expressed an interest, with opinion split within White Hart Lane whether he should stay in England or go abroad to continue his development. All the options are for loans - Spurs have no intention of selling Carroll.
09:45
Swansea make late move for Vaz Te
Palace may have some late competition for the signing of Vaz Te, writes Sami Mokbel:
Swansea have emerged as serious contenders to sign West Ham forward Ricardo Vaz Te this morning.
The 26-year-old wants to leave Upton Park today and Michael Laudrup are interested in taking the Portuguese.
Crystal Palace are also said to be keen on Vaz Te.

21-year-old Belgian defender Marnick Vermijl is to leave Manchester United on a season-long loan to join Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.

Lita on the way out of Swansea... but no sign of Odemwingie yet
Swansea update from Riath Al-Samarrai:
Apparently no sign of Odemwingie in the Liberty Stadium car park as yet...
One player almost certain to leave Swansea today is Leroy Lita. He spent part of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and they are back in for him. It's just a case of personal terms as I understand Swansea will let him go for nothing.
He has been largely disappointing since joining in 2011 for £1.75m - £8750,000 for each of his two goals.
At present, Cardiff appear to be the frontrunners to sign Odemwingie.

Vaz Te loan to Palace from West Ham close
While Bendtner remains a possible signing at Selhurst Park today, there are also suggestions that Ricardo Vaz Te could be joining on loan from West Ham.
09:29
Moses on the verge of completing Liverpool loan move
Dom King reports that Victor Moses will be the next player unveiled on a busy morning at Anfield. We'll have the pictures as soon as we have them.
09:28
Adam Crafton with news from Elland Road:

Leeds United are willing to listen to offers for El Hadji-Diouf. Brian McDermott would prefer a permanent sale with a nominal fee, but Leeds would also accept a loan offer - on the condition that the interested club pay the vast majority of his £11,000-a-week wages. It won't be easy, but there's always QPR, or Qatar....

Meanwhile, Leeds' full-back Aiden White is set to join Barnsley on loan, while Nottingham Forest are preparing a final bid worth £3million for Wolves winger Bakary Sakho.
09:26
Bendtner could join Palace
From Charles Sale:
Arsenal's Niklas Bendtner, after more than two years out of the first team picture at Arsenal, could be a Crystal Palace player by the end of the day.
Palace had been trying to buy Andrew Johnson from QPR but that doesn't look like happening now. However two Premier League clubs are still interested in Johnson if QPR are prepared to let him go.
09:23
More news on Carlton Cole from Sportsmail's Laurie Whitwell:
Picking up on Carlton Cole from earlier, it is unlikely he will move today given he is out of contract. His free transfer status means he can sign any time after the deadline so he is waiting to see who does what then deciding the best option.

As well as training with Spurs for a short period, he has been keeping fit over the summer with a personal trainer and was last month doing sessions at Jamie Lawrence's football academy in Wandsworth.
09:20
Stoke also in the mix for Odemwingie
Neil Ashton suggests that Cardiff and Swansea may face some competition in their pursuit of Peter Odemwingie:
Stoke will be in for Peter Odemwingie before the close of play. They're leaving it late but they have been told the forward will cost £4m from West Bromwich.
09:19
Interesting point made by Joe Bernstein:
It's a bit of a technicality but once Blackpool accept a bid for Tom Ince (from Spurs, Newcastle or whoever) - they are duty-bound to tell Liverpool and allow Liverpool to bid the same amount under the terms of Ince's sale to Liverpool. I'm not saying Ince will end up at Anfield though!
Newcastle have not followed up their initial inquiry for Ince after being told the winger will cost £8.5million.
Blackpool are refusing to lower their valuation for the England Under-21 international who scored his second goal of the season against Watford on Saturday.
It is expected that bids will be accepted by the club but it is understood the player, who turned down a move to Cardiff earlier in the summer because he wants to stay in the north-west with his family, wants to stay and play for his dad, Paul, until January.
In the next transfer window he will be open to a Premier League move after he has played more first-team football in the Championship.
Wanted man: Tottenham and Newcastle are among the clubs in for Tom Ince

Sunderland close to loan signing of ex-Liverpool man Dossena
Sportsmail's Alex Kay reports:
I’m hearing that Sunderland are close to agreeing a loan deal for former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena.
The Napoli man didn’t achieve much in the Premier League (despite scoring in a 4-1 win against Manchester United). I’m pretty sure Dossena would be Paolo Di Canio’s 11th signing of the summer.
09:14
Johnson wants to sign Fontaine
A couple of other little snippets from Chris Wheeler...
Yeovil boss Gary Johnson wants to sign defender Liam Fontaine from his former club Bristol City. Meanwhile, Wolves will consider offers of between £500,000 and £1m for defender Richard Stearman.

Swansea weigh up Ngog move
News from Sportsmail's Chris Wheeler:
Swansea City are weighing up a move for Bolton striker David Ngog if they lose out in the chase for West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie.
The former Liverpool player has scored 12 goals in 77 games since joining Bolton for £4million two years ago.

Everton line up replacements for Baines
Riath Al-Samarrai with the latest from Goodison Park:
Whether they want him to go or not, Everton have made plans for life after Leighton Baines.
Ryan Bertrand is on Roberto Martinez's radar and I understand Granada left back Guilherme Siqueira is wanted as well.
Liverpool are also interested in the Brazilian - he would cost roughly £4.5m - though sources close to the player told me Real Madrid are also keen on him as a possible replacement for Fabio Coentrao who, ironically is being considered by Everton, among numerous others. Complicated...

United offer sweetner to push through Herrera deal
Sportsmail understands that Manchester United are trying to push through the signing of Ander Herrera by offering to play a friendly at the rebuilt Athletic Bilbao stadium San Mames.
09:01
Sami Mokbel with this one:
West Brom have made a £6million offer for Sunderland forward Stephane Sessegnon.
The Benin international's future at the Stadium of Light has been unclear ever since Paolo Di Canio's arrival last season.
And Baggies boss Steve Clarke has tested the water with an offer for the pacy forward this morning.
Moving on: Stephane Sessegnon could be on his way to West Brom for £6m

Boro set to sign Kamara
More news from Joe Bernstein:
Middlesbrough will sign MLS striker Kei Kamara on Monday with the 6ft 3ins Sierra Leone striker heading to Teesside from America where he plays for Sporting Kansas City.
Kamara, 28, scored once in 11 games on loan at Norwich City last season.
08:57
Joe Bernstein with the ins and outs at Stoke:
Stoke City will allow £2million winger Michael Kightly to leave on loan following the signing on Monday morning of Austrian international Marko Arnautovic from Werder Bremen.
Championship club Burnley are among those who have enquired about Kightly, who has fallen down the pecking order at The Britannia since Mark Hughes replaced Tony Pulis as manager but Stoke will also consider Premier League sides.
Stoke's England under-21 goalkeeper Jack Butland is also available on loan to gain first-team experience with a move abroad a possibility.
West Brom are considering Butland but may prefer out-of-contract Northern Ireland international Lee Camp or Shay Given to deputise for Ben Foster who will miss the next three months with a foot injury.

More Deadline Day drama for Odemwingie
And this from Neil Moxley:
Anything could happen with Peter Odemwingie today. Cardiff appear to be winning the race to sign him.
But with so much water having passed under the bridge, outstanding fines, rows with Adrian Chiles, PFA meetings etc.
It could be a drawn out saga, not aided by West Brom's late plunge into the market themselves.
There are one or two foreign clubs interested also, it would appear, though with a young family, it is understood the striker would like to remain in the Premier League.

Gunners still in talks over Real trio
Sportsmail's Sami Mokbel with the latest from the Emirates:
Arsenal are back in discussions with Real Madrid this morning over their interest in Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema.
Of the three, Sportsmail understands deals for Ozil and Di Maria are more realistic, with hopes of a swoop for Benzema now fading.
Palermo striker Abel Hernandez - international team-mate for Arsenal target Luis Suarez - has emerged as a late contender in the club's search for a new centre-forward.
Arsenal scouts have watched Hernandez, 23, extensively in recent seasons - and a late £10million bid was being considered by the club's top brass last night.
Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler remains an option today, but Wenger is reluctant to spend £40million - the German's asking price - on a 19-year-old.
Sportsmail has also learned Arsenal are also considering a cheeky loan bid for Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa.
Set for the Premier League? Arsenal may consider Schalke's Julian Draxler
08:50
Hull still keen on Rodallega
This just in from Sportsmail's Laura Williamson:
Hull City retain a strong interest in Hugo Rodallega, having already had a bid of around £2million turned down by Fulham earlier this summer.
Fulham do not want to sell, however, and much more likely is another loan move for Egypt striker Gedo, who played for the club in the Championship last season. An offer has already been made to Al Ahly and the player wants to return to East Yorkshire.
08:40
West Brom have completed the season-long loan signing of Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano.
The 28-year-old Frenchman, formerly of Sedan and Lorient, and capped once for France, joins with a view to a permanent deal.
Season-long loan: West Brom have signed Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano

Medical at Arsenal for goalkeeper Viviano
Arsenal's transfer business today will begin with Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, who is set to undergo a medical in London this morning.
The 27-year-old was due to join the Gunners this time last year, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.
But his move from the Serie B club is expected to go through today after Arsenal failed in their pursuit of Valencia stopper Vicente Guaita.
Medical: Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano is set to move to Arsenal

Newcastle inquire about Nzonzi
Sportsmail understands that Newcastle United are preparing a contingency in case Yohan Cabaye departs today, with Joe Kinnear making an enquiry for Stoke's Steven Nzonzi.

BREAKING: Ozil wants to stay at Real Madrid

This is despite the Spanish side agreeing a £40million deal to sell the German.

Palace close to £1m Mariappa signing
Sportsmail understands that Crystal Palace will complete the signing of Reading defender Adrian Mariappa for £1million today.
Palace are looking for a central defender and London-born Mariappa, 26, is available.
Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan is also joining the Eagles.
Meanwhile, former Palace boss Dougie Freedman is raiding his old club to bring Owen Garvan to Bolton. The player has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park.
08:14
Kaka has completed his return to AC Milan on a free transfer from Real Madrid, signing a two-year deal.

Sakho and Moses set for Liverpool medicals
More Liverpool news from Sportsmail's Dom King:
The deals for Mamadou Sakho and Victor Moses will be completed at some point later today once the results of their medicals have been returned. No problems are envisaged.
The only other deal - at this point - Liverpool will pursue on deadline day is a move for Aston Villa keeper Shay Given, to act as cover for Simon Mignolet.

Ba determined to fight for place at Chelsea
Update from Sportsmail's Sam Cunningham:
I understand Demba Ba does not want to leave Chelsea today. Arsenal have made an enquiry and Roma and West Brom have also been linked with the striker who has been told by his club he can leave.
With stiff competition for places up front Ba has not been included in Chelsea's squad for their previous games, but he is determined to prove himself at the club he joined only eight months ago.
08:10
West Ham don't expect Quagliarella to sign
Sportsmail understands that West Ham do not expect to sign Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella today. They believe that West Brom are in pole position to sign the 20-year-old if he moves.
Sam Allardyce knows he will need to strengthen his attack and free agent - and former Hammer - Carlton Cole remains a possibility. Cole left the club earlier in the summer.
Hull City are another club interested in Cole.
08:06
Could Holtby be heading back to the Bundesliga?
From Sportsmail's Neil Moxley:
Took a call just before MOTD2 last night and the tip appeared to be referred to by Andre Villas-Boas in his post-match interview. He confirmed Spurs would be letting a couple of players out on loan now that they have bolstered their squad and you-know-who has finally moved to Spain.

One of those earmarked for a move appears to be Lewis Holtby who has been pushed down the pecking order by the arrival of the glut of Gareth Bale replacements.
I understand that Schalke are interested in taking the 22-year-old forward back to the Bundesliga, potentially on a temporary basis to start with.
08:04
Liverpool have announced the signing of Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon.
The London-born 20-year-old plays as a central defender and has made 12 league appearances for the Sporting first team and 10 appearances for Portugal Under 20.

15 HOURS TO GO
Everton and Manchester City opened talks yesterday afternoon over the season long loan of Gareth Barry.
Sticking point will be how the 32-year-old's wages are paid with Everton looking for City to subsidise part of them. Barry has one year left on his contract.
07:58
Peterborough United want £4million for striker Lee Tomlin, who was the subject of three offers from Celtic at the weekend.
Peterborough chairman Barry Fry was vocal on Celtic’s latest bid for Lee Tomlin over the weekend, saying it was like ‘World War Three in the Celtic dressing room’.
‘Why they left it to the last day I just don’t know. We could have sat down at any point in the last six weeks and knocked it on the head,' he said.
‘I eventually rang Peter Lawwell at Celtic and told him it was never going to happen in a million years. Celtic are a magnificent club with a magnificent support, but Lee has two years left. It’s not as if he has a year and we are under pressure to sell.
‘Celtic do business their way. But they had a magnificent victory during the week which brought in a few more quid and, so far as I’m concerned, their bid was a joke.’

More Manchester United news from Simon Jones:
Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera is keen for Manchester United to return with an improved offer.
The 22-year-old was left on the bench yesterday for the match at Real Madrid. Athletic say they want the player to stay however Ander is ready to make the move if United raise their bid to the £36million required for his buy-out clause.

Man United still interested in £20m Baines
Sportsmail's Adam Crafton writes:
Manchester United manager David Moyes refuses to give up in his attempts to sign Leighton Baines - but they may have to pay over £20million for the England full-back.
United will have to pay a premium - not only because of the player's undoubted quality - but also because Baines' former club Wigan will receive a percentage of the transfer, which I understand will see the Latics scoop in excess of 15 per cent of any profit Everton make from the deal. He was signed for £6million in 2007.
It would mean a double deal worth around £47million for Everton pair Baines and Marouane Fellaini.
Be wary of the ex-factor too! The business of United, Everton and Wigan is inextricably linked to one another - should the proposed moves go through, Wigan will also secure a loan deal for United midfielder Nick Powell.
07:49
From Sportsmail's Jack Gaughan:
Everton have agreed a £12.5million fee for James McCarthy but are haggling over how that'll be paid. Suffered similar problems when they took Roberto Martinez.
07:48
The news that Stewart Downing will be missing for three weeks with a leg injury may force West Ham to reinforce their squad today.
With Joe Cole, Andy Carroll and Alou Diarra already absent, and Ricardo Vaz Te requesting a transfer, Sam Allardyce could look to former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou as a replacement.
07:43
As reported by Mail Online yesterday, Stoke City have bolstered their forward line with the signing of Werder Bremen's Marko Arnautovic on a four-year contract.
Incoming: Stoke have signed Werder Bremen striker Marko Arnautovic

Update from Sportsmail's Sami Mokbel on transfer dealings at Old Trafford:
Marouane Fellaini is pushing hard for a dream £26million move to Manchester United this morning.
Talks between United and Everton were at an advanced stage last night, with the clubs haggling over add-on bonuses and the size of cash instalments for the Belgian.
Sportsmail also understands the Toffees will not let Fellaini leave until they have struck a deal with Wigan to sign James McCarthy (see 07.16) - the man Roberto Martinez wants to replace the Belgium international.
Fellaini has made it clear he wants to leave Goodison Park for Old Trafford in search of Champions League football - and will reiterate his stance this afternoon should the protracted deal stall.
07:25
Martin Demichelis has linked up with coach Manuel Pellegrini for the third time in his career.
Having previously worked under the Chilean at River Plate and Malaga, he has signed for Manchester City for a fee in the region of £3.5million.
Done deal: Manchester City have signed defender Martin Demichelis for £3.5m (Picture: Man City/Twitter)
07:16
With Manchester United not letting go in their pursuit of Marouane Fellaini, Everton are already drawing up a contingency plan.
They had a £12m bid for Wigan's James McCarthy rejected over the weekend but could raise that today if progress is made on the Belgian's move to Old Trafford.
It would mean manager Roberto Martinez going back to raid former club Wigan again.
Manchester City's Gareth Barry and Blackpool's Tom Ince are other possibilities.
Head turned? Wigan's James McCarthy could join former manager Roberto Martinez at Everton

Odemwingie wanted by both Swansea and Cardiff
Sportsmail's Riath Al-Samarrai sets up an intriguing day ahead in Wales:
It could be an interesting day in south Wales, largely for one reason - Peter Odemwingie.
The Nigerian, and his car, is wanted by both Swansea and Cardiff. Michael Laudrup has wanted him for months and it was the decision of Huw Jenkins not to sanction a move in June that helped tensions grow between the club and its manager.
Swansea have already made a bid - roughly £1.8m - but have grown progressively more frustrated by the escalating price. West Brom are understood to now want somewhere around £3m. As I understand it, Cardiff see his signing as more of a necessity.
So, will we see Odemwingie driving up and down the M4 today...?
07:09
All eyes on Arsenal today. After a summer of dashed expectations and penny pinching, will Arsene Wenger finally unlock that promised transfer warchest today?
Among the targets will be Real Madrid's unsettled playmaker Mesut Ozil, who has privately made it clear he wants to leave the Bernabeu.
With the arrival of Bale, will Real allow the German to leave today? Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen.

07:03
It's finally done. The Gareth Bale transfer saga was concluded late last night with Real Madrid announcing the world record £86million signing of the Welsh wizard.
The former Tottenham man will undergo a medical in the Spanish capital this morning and, all being well, will be officially unveiled at the Bernabeu this lunchtime.
He has agreed a six year contract worth a whopping £256,000-a-week.

QPR want Tom Carroll on loan
Sportsmail's team of writers will slaving away throughout the day to feed me all the latest news and Matt Barlow is first to strike:
Amid the flurry of interest from Harry Redknapp in Tottenham players like Jermain Defoe, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Emmanuel Adebayor, do not be surprised if the QPR boss returns to his former club to sign midfield starlet Tom Carroll on loan.

Redknapp made an enquiry about taking 21-year-old on a permanent move to Loftus Road but Spurs do not want to lose one of their brightest homegrown talents.

Carroll, however, believes this is a season when he needs regular football to continue his development and cannot envisage it at White Hart Lane after the recruitment drive funded by Gareth Bale's move to Real Madrid.

He will seize the chance to work again with Redknapp and be part of a promotion push with Rangers, who are no longer restricted by the Premier League rules which state no more than one player can be signed on loan from one other club.
Loan move? Tottenham's Tom Carroll could be on the way to QPR for the season
