While goalkeepers love making penalty saves, officials must pay more attention to their behaviour before the kick is taken.
Both Arsenal's Wojciech Szczesny and Liverpool’s new signing Simon Mignolet were jumping up and rattling their crossbars in attempt to put off penalty takers. As a result the bar was bouncing.
Referees need to be attentive at all times in games and both Martin Atkinson and Anthony Taylor appeared to miss the two goalkeepers transgress law.
Naughty: Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet tries to bend the crossbar as he puts Jonathan Walters off
Needs to stop: And Arsenal's Wojciech Szczesny does the same, though Christian Benteke scored the rebound
Szczesny and Mignolet were guilty of trying to affect Jonathan Walters and Christian Benteke as they were preparing themselves from 12-yards, though the latter scored the rebound from his miss.
There is no need for a caution just a word to tell the ‘keeper to stop this practice – they have enough latitude with their movement as they can jump about and move along their lines whilst waving their arms whilst the penalty taker approaches.
This new unsporting act could become a trend if referees don’t ‘nip it in the bud’
